About SquashBusters:

SquashBusters is a 29-year-old sports-based youth development program that uses a combination of squash, fitness, academic support and enrichment, community service, and mentoring to improve the lives of youth in Boston, Lawrence, and Providence. SquashBusters’ mission is to challenge and nurture youth in these cities – as students, athletes, and citizens – so that they can recognize and fulfill their greatest potential in life. SquashBusters currently serves 300 middle school and high school students who practice three days a week throughout the school year and participate in weekend practices, tournaments, and summer opportunities. The Role:  

The Part-time Squash Coach plays a key role in delivering SquashBusters’ mission as a youth sports development program with squash at its core. This position is rooted in the belief that squash is a powerful tool for helping young people grow into strong, disciplined, and confident individuals. This coach will focus primarily on leading and supporting squash and fitness practices. Their presence on court is central to creating structured, high-energy sessions that build student-athletes’ skills, mental toughness, and character. They will work in collaboration with the Program Director and squash staff to ensure practices reflect program goals and values.

Location: Boston, Massachusetts

Reports To: Full-time Squash Coach

Schedule: 15-25 hours/week, concentrated on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings

 

Responsibilities:

Program Delivery:  Day-to-Day

  • Lead and support weekday afternoon and Saturday squash practices and challenge matches for middle and high school teams.
  • Incorporate physical conditioning and wellness into sessions to complement squash development.
  • Reinforce a positive and disciplined environment that reflects SquashBusters’ values.
  • Offer student-athletes individualized feedback and guidance around their growth as athletes and teammates.
  • Communicate with squash staff to stay aligned on practice plans and athlete progress.

Outreach/Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes and support a welcoming, inclusive squash environment.
  • Serve as a visible and encouraging role model for athletes and volunteers during practices.
  • Assist with student tryouts or volunteer engagement if applicable.

Special Event Management

  • Support internal matches, tournaments, or weekend events when possible.
  • Join team trips, competitions, or special squash opportunities if schedule allows.
  • Contribute to summer squash camps or elite training programs based on availability.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Plan and document squash lessons in alignment with the SQB squash curriculum.
  • Track and communicate student progress through regular feedback to the squash team.
  • Attend planning meetings with squash staff to stay aligned on curriculum, student growth, and practice goals.
  • Assist with practice set-up, squash equipment organization, and court safety.

  • Support mentorship programs and advanced squash training initiatives as needed.
  • Help connect athletes with seasonal squash camps and elite training sessions.
  • Lead or support the planning and execution of the SQB summer programming.
  • Participate in community service projects and field trips; support overnight trips when applicable.
  • Coordinate workshops, demo matches, and special fitness sessions.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Collect and update student-athlete paperwork, and track attendance and practice readiness (e.g., arriving on time, wearing proper gear, and being prepared to participate) using Salesforce and internal trackers.
  • Assist with the implementation and documentation of performance and character evaluations (T-Reports).
  • Manage athletic equipment, storage maintenance, gear, first aid, and locker room supplies, ensuring appropriate inventory, organization, and cleanliness at all times.
  • Maintain and update calendars and shared program schedules.
  • Support SQB’s social media by posting highlights and updates from squash-related events.
  • Organize and archive program documents using Microsoft Teams and internal systems.
  • Document and track program spending and work with team to manage program budget.

Middle School Academic Coordinator, Lawrence

The Role:   

The SquashBusters Middle School Academic Coordinator is responsible for planning and running homework help sessions, special events and academic enrichment programming for 6th-8th graders. Additionally, the Middle School Academic Coordinator will plan and coordinate sessions that support 8th graders with their high school planning and applications. As a member of the program team, they will collaborate with the Executive Director of Programming and all program staff to ensure an integrated approach to SQB academic, sport and character development programs. Through these programs, the program staff will challenge, nurture, and hold accountable SQB youth so that they recognize and fulfill their potential. 

 

Location: Lawrence, Massachusetts 

Reports To: Executive Director of Programming 

 

Responsibilities:  

Program Delivery: Day-to-Day 

  • Directly support a caseload of 6th-8th grade students across SQB’s program pillars: college, character, and health. 
  • Plan, supervise, and direct impactful and innovative enrichment activities to help students persist through middle school, as well as to prepare them for the transition from middle to high school.  
  • Plan, supervise, and direct daily homework help sessions to support students’ schoolwork and prepare supplemental activities for students who have completed their homework.  
  • Work with students and families to navigate and successfully complete the high school choice, ISEE test prep, and/or private school application process with a focus on fit for each family.  
  • Recruit and/or assist in recruiting ~40 student try-outs per year for the SQB program.  
  • Manage academic volunteers during homework and academic enrichment sessions.  
  • Meet with colleagues to coordinate and complete shared responsibilities.  
  • Build a culture of community, leading from a transformative relationship and youth development perspective, within the middle school cohort.  
  • Create and maintain documentation of team building, leadership, and enrichment activities. 
  • Drive students to/from practices and special events in SquashBusters vehicles 2-3 times/week. 

Outreach/Engagement 

  • Communicate consistently with parents/guardians to ensure required forms (annual paperwork, waivers, permission slips etc.) are complete and updated regularly. 
  • Communicate with parents/guardians so that they feel like part of the SQB community and can support their student’s growth and development at home; meet regularly with families about the secondary school process and their student’s progress as needed.  
  • Organize and lead parent/guardian meetings as needed. 
  • Monitor students’ progress in school by communicating with students’ teachers, advisors, and guidance counselors as needed.  
  • Communicate with partner community organizations to diversify academic enrichment sessions for students. 

Special Event Management 

  • Coordinate and implement team building, summer opportunities, and other special programs. Organize and participate in social events and field trips for appropriate grade levels.  
  • Identify and organize workshops or guest speakers on relevant topics throughout the year. 
  • Chaperone approximately three-four annual overnight trips for SquashBusters participants. 

Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Organize schedules and materials and collect and enter student data in a Salesforce database.  
  • Collect report cards and update details onto Salesforce. 
  • Maintain classroom to create inviting, productive space for students and prepare the classroom for daily use. 
  • Assist with implementation of program evaluation (T-Reports).  
  • Plan general weekly/monthly schedule with colleagues and keep appropriate calendars updated.  
  • Document and track program spending and work with team to manage program budget.

Overview:

The Program Coordinator: Academics is responsible for planning and running homework help sessions, team building activities and academic enrichment sessions for SquashBusters (SQB) students. Additionally, the Academic Team Member plans and runs special programming including community service outings and field trips.  As a member of the program team, they will collaborate with the Program Director (PD), Assistant Program Director (APD): Academics, and all program staff to ensure an integrated approach to SQB academic, sport and character development programs.  Through these programs, the program staff will challenge, nurture, and hold accountable SQB youth so that they recognize and fulfill their potential. This position will work most closely with the 40-50 students in 9th – 11th grade.

 

Responsibilities:

Program Delivery: Day-to-Day

  • Plan, supervise and direct daily homework help sessions to support students’ school work.
  • Plan, supervise and direct impactful and innovative team building, enrichment, and leadership activities that support SQB’s recipe and focus on post-secondary and career success.
  • Create/maintain documentation of team building, leadership, and enrichment activities.
  • Ensure a productive and positive environment at SQB by managing student behavior and consistently instilling SQB values and providing students with individual feedback on their progress.
  • In conjunction with the PD and APD, develop and implement academic success plans/contracts as needed.
  • Manage academic volunteers during homework and academic enrichment sessions.
  • Meet with both academic and squash colleagues to develop an integrated approach to work with students and to coordinate and complete shared responsibilities.
  • Transport students to and from practice as needed, including driving SQB van or walking with students to train.
  • Actively ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all students by adhering to SQB safety protocols and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment.

Outreach/Engagement

  • Monitor students’ progress in school by communicating regularly with school staff to determine the best ways that SQB can support a student’s success.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians to ensure that necessary forms and paperwork are complete and so they are aware of their child’s progress, feel like part of the SQB community and can support their child’s growth.
  • Organize and lead parent/guardian meetings as needed.
  • Recruit or assist in recruiting students for SQB program as needed.
  • Support recruitment and training of academic volunteers as needed.

Special Event Management

  • Recruit for, coordinate, and implement summer programs.
  • Identity, organize and participate in community service projects and field trips, including on some Saturdays during the year. Chaperone/drive students for squash or team events as needed.
  • With colleagues, organize and participate in overnight trip for appropriate grade levels.
  • Identify and organize workshops or guest speakers on relevant topics throughout the year.
  • Organize and/or assist in organizing special events and programming, such as honor roll dinners.
  • Help students connect to appropriate opportunities such as external summer camps, SAT prep, and employment opportunities.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Collect and update paperwork for students such as parent/guardian contracts, physicals, report cards and program fees and update these details as well as attendance and summer activities in the Salesforce database.
  • Assist with implementation of program evaluation and presentations (T-Reports).
  • Maintain classroom to create inviting, productive space for students and prepare classroom for day’s activities.
  • Manage classroom supplies and daily snacks. Organize and clean up classrooms at end of day.
  • Plan general weekly/monthly schedule with colleagues and keep appropriate calendars updated.
  • Support SQB’s social media strategy via posting on appropriate site accounts following program events and trips.
  • Maintain and organize relevant documents in Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.

Position Summary

The SquashBusters Boston program is led by a dedicated team of professionals that promote the benefits of supportive engagement on the court and in the classroom for students across the City of Boston. SquashBusters aims to ensure that its graduates (1) enroll in and successfully complete college or other post-secondary opportunities; (2) understand and embrace life-long habits of health and wellness; and (3) develop a deep sense of character and personal integrity.

Specific academic programming includes homework help, enrichment activities, and one-on-one post-secondary mentoring to help students apply to, enroll in, and graduate from a best-fit postsecondary opportunity. Students develop their personal character through community service, leadership opportunities, and travel experiences that broaden their horizons. Additionally, regular practice, squash competitions, and fitness activities demonstrate the importance of health and wellness for life.

The Academic Coordinator for Middle School is responsible for leading the 6th – 8th grade academic and enrichment programming at SquashBusters. The Academic Coordinator will support a cohort of approximately 60 students across three support pillars: college, character, and health by planning and leading enrichment sessions and homework sessions for middle school students and supporting activities for high school students led by Academic Coordinator for High School. Additionally, the Academic Coordinator plays a critical role in recruiting and welcoming new 6th and 7th grade students to the team as well as in supporting 8th grade students with their high school planning and applications.

The Academic Coordinator is an integral member of Boston Program team and will work closely with other team members to provide holistic and individualized support to all students.

Program Delivery

  • Directly support a caseload of 60 6th – 8th grade students across the college, character, and health pillars of the SQB program.
  • Plan, supervise, and direct impactful and innovative enrichment activities to help students persist through middle school, as well as to prepare students for the transition from middle school to high school.
  • Plan, supervise, and direct daily homework help sessions to support students’ schoolwork and prepare supplemental activities for students who have completed their homework.
  • Work with students and families to navigate and successfully complete the high school choice, ISEE test prep, and/or private school application process with a focus on fit for each family.
  • Recruit and/or assist in recruiting ~40 student try-outs per year for SQB program.
  • Build a culture of community, leading from a transformative relationship and youth development perspective, within the middle school cohort.
  • Create and maintain documentation of team building, leadership, and enrichment activities.

Outreach and Engagement

  • Communicate with parents/guardians so that they feel like part of the SQB community and can support their student’s growth and development at home; meet regularly with families about the secondary school process and their student’s progress as needed.
  • Communicate with a student’s teachers, advisor, and guidance counselors as needed.
  • Communicate with partner community-based organizations to diversify academic enrichment sessions for current students.

Special Event Management

  • Coordinate and implement team building, summer opportunities, and other special programs.
  • Organize and participate in social events and field trips for appropriate grade levels.
  • Chaperone approximately three-four annual overnight trips for SquashBusters participants.
  • Drive students to/from special events in SquashBusters vehicles as needed.

Administration Responsibilities

  • Organize schedules and materials and collect and enter student data in a Salesforce database.
  • Assist with implementation of program evaluation (T-Reports).
  • Plan general weekly/monthly schedule with colleagues and keep appropriate calendars updated.
  • Document and track program spending and work with team to manage program budget.

  • Plan, supervise, and direct weekday and Saturday squash practices and matches throughout the school year for middle and high school teams.
  • Plan, supervise, and direct fitness programming, ensuring it is integrated with the squash and overall program.

  • Recruit, manage, and train squash volunteers, ensuring a 4:1 of student to staff/volunteer.
